BOOK OF THE YEAR 2024 :

15 Colonial Thefts : A Guide To Looted African Heritage In Museums
At the end of the UN international decade for people of African descent, we want to introduce our book of the year and #BLM exhibition related book release “ 15 Colonial Thefts ”. Responding to the demands of our audience for references behind the exhibition related Fact – Checking, far beyond “the story” of a global #BLM protest targeting colonial statues across the Benelux, France and the U.K. . 15 COLONIAL THEFTS is able to close the gap between a century of white washed instrumentalized colonial history, written by white folks and the real demands of people of African descent , to return looted African art, cultural heritage to the countries of their origin.
The book is structured into three parts, 15 chapters: each and everyone focusing on a different African country. Stories of colonial theft, colonial crime, colonial violence and erased African history of resistance against colonialism. 15 Colonial Thefts can be seen as a powerful guide to looted African heritage in museums. Where to find the stolen art works, cultural assets branded as objects and fetish ? Where to find cultural belongings and ancestral human remains like colonial military trophies (cutted skulls), hidden inside museum archives, cellars of academic institutes in France, U.K. (Manchester, London ), Belgium and also in Germany ?
One thing becomes clear from an African diaspora perspective, amplified by the #BLM Global Network. Even if some progress has been made through activism and real demands of gene- rations fighting for repatriation. The majority of assets (some collections maintain over 25.000 pieces) still remain locked inside institutional cages and private collections.
RESTITUTION MEANS ACCESS. HOW DOES RESTITUTION LOOK LIKE ?!?
